We were waiting for our lunch, my colleague and I. My phone is placed on the table. My eyes slightly fixated on the phone. She was talking about something, and I was just staring at my phone, and listening, of course.
This is not how I usually am.
Suddenly, the LED blinked. That little green light followed a steady rhythm, unlike my heart which skipped a beat upon realizing that I just received a new message.
"So?"
The SMS read. It was from a friend. My dear heart was bummed. I keyed in my reply.
"I don't know. I haven't heard anything since last night. Should I be sad now? :("
I placed the phone down on the table and went back to talking.
"So where were we?"
"I can contact some friends in Trust. It's just portfolio management. Kaya mo yun."
For a moment, I pictured myself meeting staff analysts, monitoring markets and current events, buying and selling securities and of course, reaping its financial rewards. My goodness - the money, and the things that I can do with it! I sighed.
"I can't. I think that's like taking another detour. It'll set me further away from my prospect." I said. "If I really want this, I'll have to wait it out. I'm not really the patient kind; you know that. Especially when I want something, I usually want it right away. It pains me to stay in this bleak; it pains me more to be helpless. To be honest, I really find it hard to make them like me. I'm scared that no one will."
She frowned. "Don't be. They will. They just have to..."
"Take a chance on me?" I said. My eye caught a familiar blinking on my mobile phone. I reached for it as I added, "They have to. I know that I can be the best there is and I just need that one person who will believe."
Another message received; my heart couldn't keep itself still.
