let's talk about love

WARNING. May possibly contain some mushiness.

*******

Let's talk about love. It's been three, four months. How are you doing?
MakMak: Why the sudden urge to discuss this?

It will be some closure of sorts. It's freaking time anyway. And I know you're just dying to tell me something. Not that I'm clueless as to what it is.
MakMak: Right. So let's just get this over with. I'm thinking of dropping by the office to get my doodle notebook. Forgot to bring it home last Friday.

So how are you now?
MakMak: If you must know, I'm doing pretty well. Feels like my life's back on track.

But you still get affected sometimes when Jar brings him up.
MakMak: Unfortunately. Just one of the side effects of love I guess. It'll pass.

Wow. Love. That's a big word. How do you know it was love?
MakMak: How do you know it wasn't? Love is something felt. It's a strong, undeniable feeling.

So how does MakMak love?
MakMak: Ah, eewness. Spare me some dignity, please?

Hmpft. I mean, do you think okay kang magmahal?
MakMak: The word "okay" is very relative. And it's really up to the recipient [of my love] to evaluate the degree of my affection. Or if it is genuine for that matter. I just thought of this - how far I'd go to show my love? Like 'Ness, I'd probably walk a thousand miles just to see him.

Uh huh. So give me your thoughts on this - is it hard to fall in love with a person who's in love with someone else. Other than yourself of course.
MakMak: Knee-jerk answer: yes. Jealousy will really eat you up. But love is a contagious happy feeling. It should instill selflessness in people. In my opinion, I'd be glad to see that person pursuing or be with someone whom he really adores. Would it be better if he's with me? Probably, but things happen for a valid and logical reason. He's not with me because he's not in love with me.

What if you were on the other person's shoes? Someone loves you dearly but you can't reciprocate it.
MakMak: It's always nice to feel loved but I have to tell them what I honestly feel. I'm frank but I'm not a jerk. Things like these should be handled sensibly. I'm not one to burn bridges.

You love him, he loves you. But you're not together.
MakMak: Uhm, why's that? They should be. Unless one or both parties are already committed to someone else, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be with one another. We are all obliged to make ourselves happy.

... I think it was the summer time when I laid eyes on you. I didn't even know you're name some how we'd end up in the same room. Never crossed my mind. I never saw you like that. I should've listened to my best friend. She knew we'd be a perfect match...

How will you prove your love to someone who doesn't believe your words?
MakMak: I don't need to explain or prove anything. If he loves and trusts me, my words are enough. Besides, words are just reassurances. People should look into actions more than words.

In your opinion, which is more hurtful - being cheated on or being left (not necessarily for someone else)?
MakMak: One would basically have the same reaction towards those circumstances. Both are hurtful and demeaning on the "victim" as he'll be left questioning or doubting his worth as a person.

Was there ever a time when you tried to see if you'll eventually fall in love with a person?
MakMak: You're referring to the Psst guy.

Yes, I'm talking about him.
MakMak: No. Though I believe that love can be learned, there should be chemistry first and foremost. Not necessarily big sparks but just enough that the two persons mesh well and complement one another.

So it's over with him?
MakMak: There wasn't even a beginning. It's a big turn-off when people force themselves to other persons. Like I said before, relationships should progress naturally.

Based on your last statement, do you think that it's just natural that lovers can be friends after the break-up?
MakMak: Yes but I'm using the word "friends" loosely. There will always be awkwardness looming between them but then it still depends on how they parted ways. It's not entirely applicable to everyone though. I know of a few ex-couples who have become good buddies afterwards.

... I always made up some excuse sayin' that you weren't my type. Didn't wanna face the truth. Didn't wanna cross that line. Till one day I saw you out of the corner of my eye. You were flirting with some girl and I said I thought I would die...

You're kind of used to people seeing you as a snob or suplado, right?
MakMak: I think so. It doesn't really bother me anyway. Though it surprises me when people say otherwise. It's the usual case with me. After people get to know "me", they'd confess that they thought that I'm intimidating, suplado or masungit. It's an advantage anyway.

Remember Ansley?
MakMak: Yeah. Haha. I know where you're getting to.

You should write something about that girl.
MakMak: Haha. Perhaps, one day. It has been on my "to-write-about" list. I don't know how to go about it yet.

You should just tell it outright. Anyway, how quick do you get to be infatuated with someone?
MakMak: Quick enough. Haha. Especially if that person's really smart and knows how to carry himself in a conversation. Unlike IW. He's so yesterday.

So why are you dreamy-eyed right now?
MakMak: What?

And you keep on checking your phone every five minutes. Are you expecting a message or a call from anyone?
MakMak: Huh? Of course not. I was just, checking. If the screen has a scratch. Or something.

You are in love right now?!
MakMak: Uhm, no? Love, like hate, is such a strong word.

Supposing, God is giving you 4 minutes to live. What would you tell that loved one whom you won't admit?
MakMak: I don't think that far off. But to humor you, I'd tell that supposed loved one, "Live."

... It's a typical love story. We started out as friends. This is how it ends. This is just a typical love story. The boy you never wanted just steals your heart. I never saw it comin' till I fell so hard...

We both know you're the jealous-type.
MakMak: It's impossible to love genuinely without feeling even a tiny bit jealous. But like any other feeling, it should be maintained at a healthy level. Jealousy can be smothering. Sad truth though is that it's inevitable. It will come up eventually.

What can you tell those people who refuse to love? Or at the very least, deny that they're in love?
MakMak: I have to quote a friend, "Ilabas niyo yang love na yan at baka kayo ay mabaog". Haha. Sorry for being crass. I thought it was a bit funny.

No it wasn't.
MakMak: ...

Last question, any message to the world? You told me earlier that you wanted to say something. I'm not pressuring you or anything.
MakMak: No, I do not feel any pressure right now. I just don't have anything else to say. Except, perhaps, world peace.

... Can't believe it's happening, when I least expect it. My prince under disguise, how you fooled me with those eyes. When I feel like letting go, in your arms is where I know I am. From the beginning we always belong...
