By this time, the park is almost devoid of tourists save for us three. Although souvenir kiosks and concession stands offering the New York classic hot dogs, pizza and pretzels are already lined up along the shady parts of the area. A few Lady Liberty performers are out in certain spots trying to entertain a couple of passers by, trying to sell a photo op for a few bucks.
Battery Park houses several structures that serve as memorials to commemorate those who died during the Korean War, World War II and the more recent tragedy, the 9/11. As we passed by the World War II memorial, a group of soldiers were holding a ceremony in appreciation of the services rendered by two young cadets.
Walking further, we spotted the line for the ferry ticket which is now building up and snaking through the park. Since we're on a tight schedule, we couldn't afford to stop by to smell the beautiful flowers and really value the beauty of this side of Manhattan. Maybe next time, we'd get to do more than just pass by this park.
