lovebug: 14 days to love (day 1)

THEY SAY IT'S A RIVER THAT CIRCLES THE EARTH

Weeknight. Midnight.

By this time, Kalayaan is already dark and deserted save for the few stray cars and cabs that pass the otherwise busy street. Together with Palma, and several coffee shops and restaurants in the area, the avenue bore witness to countless conversations between two friends. Homebound, they would talk about the mundane like the music of Spears and the Jonas Brothers, recall and share stories from their recent years, and philosophize on the more sensible topics like life, and love.

"Sige, so how do you define love?" One of them challenged the other as they walked uphill.

As expected, a lengthy, philosophical discussion ensued with the more conventional concepts like love is an unexplainable force, or that it is unconditional and trusting and caring and passionate and romantic, or that love is all we need, unintentionally never brought up.

Both however agreed that more than the feeling aspect, love is actually a conscious decision. More than anything else, love is an action. It is more than that spark, or that lust, or that sharing of common interests. Because love is that conscious effort to make everything work, even when you don't feel like it. It's that effort to try over and over again, even when you feel like you've already lost it. It's that effort that makes you hold on, even when you feel like you're being insane about your decisions.

Love is all about commitment. When these things are taken to heart, contentment and happiness will surely follow.

Love takes the tears and the pain, and it turns it in to the beauty that remains.

I completely agree with these statements.. most people think that love means having that warm, fuzzy feeling all the time. But what they don't realize is that passion fades and love takes work. Like you wrote, love is that conscious effort to make everything work even when you don't feel like it.

Great post Mak!

Ah! Fuzzy! That's the word that I've been looking for while writing this entry down. Hahaha. :)

And exactly, love is that extra effort one gives after the "excitement" and "thrill" is gone.

Thanks, K.
